Dr. Akintunde Israel Ogunsumi holds an HND (Federal Polytechnic, Ede), B.Sc. (Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife), M.Sc., and Ph.D. (University of Ibadan), and is also a recipient of a Doctor of Philosophy (Honoris Causa) from Canadian University, Belize. He is a seasoned academic, Plant Ecologist, and Environmental Botanist with years of teaching, research, and consultancy experience in environmental and biological sciences.
He is currently a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Botany, Faculty of Science, University of Ibadan, having previously served as a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Environmental Biology, School of Applied Sciences, Federal Polytechnic, Ede. Dr. Ogunsumi has contributed significantly to undergraduate and postgraduate training, curriculum development, and academic mentoring, and is widely respected for his passion for teaching and student development.
His research interests span plant ecology, environmental conservation, ecosystem management, biodiversity sustainability, and applied environmental solutions, with a strong emphasis on translating scientific knowledge into practical solutions for environmental challenges. He has participated in and led several academic and professional engagements, workshops, and consultancy projects within and outside Nigeria.
Beyond academia, Dr. Ogunsumi is the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Seeds of Exploits Educational and Consultancy Services (Nigeria) and PlanetKeepers Environmental Solutions, organizations committed to educational advancement, environmental sustainability, and professional consultancy services.
He also serves as the official Nigerian representative of Canadian University, Belize, an institution offering Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) and other medically related programmes, and is additionally a recognized representative of Beacon House College, Ontario, Canada, facilitating international academic linkages and student placement opportunities.
Dr. Ogunsumi is deeply committed to academic excellence, environmental stewardship, and human capacity development, and continues to play active roles in bridging education, research, and real-world impact.
